September 30 - Cross country Meet at Sherwood Forest (Burlington)
For the month of September and October:
Math
Students will learn to create number patterns using addition, subtraction, multiplication and division to get to the next term or the pattern rule in words. They will explore number patterns on a number line and in t-charts. They will explore and make predictions to growing and shrinking numeric and geometric patterns. Students also will learn about line graphs, finding a mead and mode, and how to analyze information.
Numeracy - Whole Numbers to 100,000
Student will be able to order whole numbers from 0.01 to 100,000 and be able to print numbers to 10,000. We will begin multiplication and division.
Language/Social Studies: Government
As a class we have begun to discuss Canada’s Government. We will learn how our Federal, provincial and municipal governments work and the jurisdiction of each level. Students will soon understand the shared responsibilities of governments and the essential services they provide for all citizens. We will explore how laws and regulations are created and we will inquire on social and environmental issues of Canada. Students will have the opportunity to have a real-life experience in voting for Canada’s next PM and will understand the importance of voting for a leader. A large part of this unit focuses on rights and responsibilities as citizens of Canada, and the students will have many opportunities to explore what it means to live in a democratic society.
Health: Personal Safety and Injury Prevention
We began last week with a discussion about our own personal health and how important it is to take care of ourselves. We will discuss how to handle and seek assistance in violent, abusive and bullying situations. We will also explore the nature of conflict, and ways to resolve conflict in our relationships.
Science: Conservation of Energy and Resources
Towards the end of October, we will begin our science unit on the Conservation of Energy Resources. We will explore different forms of energy and their transformations. We will discuss energy efficient homes and the benefits for our environment. Students will then have the opportunity to research and design an energy efficient home.
